Classroom News Welcome to Third Grade In third grade we try to encourage responsibility for homework, school supplies, dressing appropriately for specials, coming to school on time, and being prepared daily for school. Please help your child achieve these goals by being supportive and reminding them often during their daily routine! Please make sure you check your child's take home folder and assignment book daily! The assignment book must be signed every day! Homework is your child's responsibility! AT HOME Your child is now able to go to www.studyisland.com to help practice the skills needed for school and the PSSA tests. Have them log in with their first initial and last name at sae (ex. jsmith@saes) The log in number is their school ID.
*Review reading vocabulary and their meanings. Have your child make up sentences using those words. Read their story with them and discuss the characters and their traits, the setting and how it affects the characters, and the plot of the story. Also, your child should be able to discuss problem/solution, make predictions about the story, and compare and contrast things (characters, events, places) in a story. We are also analyzing characters and sequencing story events. Reading tests will be given on Day 6! Spelling lists will be given on Day 1 and Spelling Tests will be given on Day 6 unless given prior notice!
*Please practice addition and subtraction facts daily with your child. They will be given timed tests to see how they are progressing. Please review worksheets sent home with your child. We have completed out measuring unit. Reinforce measuring at home to the inch and the half inch. Presently we are working on rounding numbers and adding and subtracting estimates. We will also be adding and subtracting with regrouping. Please review errors on papers with your child to assist in their understanding of these basic concepts. Go to www.pearsonsuccess.net to review student lessons. See letter sent home for log in information. -----------------------------------
We eat lunch at 12:35. Your child is permitted to bring in a healthy (please refrain from messy) snack for the morning. This is optional! Please adhere to the wellness policy as they will not be permitted to have it otherwise. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
