Course Descriptions:

       Pre-Algebra à Students will understand the four basic operations of arithmetic as it pertains to solving open sentences.  Students will understand the basic vocabulary of algebra, such as terms and variables so they can apply properties of equalities in an effort to solve various algebraic problems.

       Algebra à Students will develop problem solving skills by using algebraic terminology and various equation solving techniques.  Also, students will develop the ability to interpret written information into mathematical sentences. 

       Advanced Algebra à Students will develop problem solving skills by using algebraic terminology and various equation solving techniques.  Also, students will develop the ability to interpret written information into mathematical sentences. 

Required Materials: Students will be required to bring the following materials to class everyday:

       Math book

          PSSA book

          Pencil

          Notebook

Grading Scale:  The grading scale for this class follows the school’s grading scale.  The student’s grade will consist of tests, quizzes, homework, participation, and activities.  Everything will be graded with a point quality, and the final percent will be taken out of the total points.

          90% to 100% à A

          80% to 89.9% à B

          70% to 79.9% à C

          60% to 69.9% à D

          59.9% and below à E

Homework:  Practice problems will be given regularly for homework.  Random homework checks will be made for full attempt and completion of the homework problems, and points will be given accordingly.  If the student was in class the day before there is no excuse for not having their homework, it is an automatic 0.  The only excuse for not having their homework would be that the student was absent the day before.  If the student was absent they have one day to complete the homework assignment, and it is their responsibility to show the assignment to me, before it becomes a 0.

Free Homework Pass:  If a student receives a perfect score on a quiz or test, they will receive a “free homework pass”.  Also, another way to receive a “free homework pass” is to become the student of the month in math.  These passes can be used when homework is randomly collected and the student does not have it with them.  The pass will be collected from the student, and they will still receive full points for the homework.

1)      Come to class on time

2)    Bring all required materials

3)    Respect others

4)    No talking out in class

5)    Remain in your assigned seat

6)    Return all calculators

7)    No food or drink

8)    NO CHEATING!

Problem of the Day:  There will be a problem of the day on the chalk board everyday when the students come in to class.  The students will be expected to sit down, get out paper, complete the problem, and hand it in for points.  If you are absent, you may not make up the problem of the day.
