Student requirements and expected levels of achievement
The students taking this course will be expected to:
· Arrive on time prepared for class
· Participate/engage in lessons, class discussions, and activities
· Complete assignments in a timely manner (by the specified due date)
· Possess a basic knowledge of grammar and sentence and paragraph structure
· Respect themselves, others, and school property
Course Description – Students will be instructed in grammar, usage, and mechanics in an effort to strengthen their writing skills. They will also be taught the writing process and how to apply it. Genres of literature will be focused upon as well. All expectations are in correlation with the PSSA Reading, Writing, and Speaking Standards and Eligible Content.
Supplies
Each student must be prepared for class on a daily basis by bringing a notebook and folder designated specifically for this class. It is helpful to have color-coordinated notebooks and folders for each class. Also, each student must bring pencils. Pens with blue or black ink only are required. I will provide the students with a journal that they must bring to class everyday. Any other materials will be supplied.

Homework
All homework is dependent upon the material covered in class. Set due dates will be given in advance. No late work will be accepted with the exception of legal absences.
Students are responsible for all missed assignments due to legal absences. If a student is absent, he or she must inform the teacher in order to get the missed work upon their return to school. In addition I will maintain an updated homework hotline and website so that information regarding assignments may be accessed.
