    Description: This course will focus on concepts essential for students to live on their own either in college or independent living style. The focus will be on housing options, fixed/variable expenses, budgeting, nutrition, food supply, global food trends and an introduction to child development.  Other topics relating to the Academic Standards for Family and Consumer Sciences are disseminated as deemed necessary.  Understanding of concepts will be demonstrated by various labs and projects.  Appropriate lab behavior is required to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all students and instructors in the Family and Consumer Sciences classroom.

    Description: This course is for mature students with a desire to understand children from conception to age six.  Students will interact with parenting simulation activities.  Applying food science and nutrition to the daily life of the family will be discussed and demonstrated with various labs and projects.  Financial and resource management, and balancing family, work and community responsibility will be incorporated into the classroom.   Other topics relating to the Academic Standards for Family and Consumer Sciences are disseminated as deemed necessary.  Appropriate lab behavior is required to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all students and instructors in the Family and Consumer Sciences classroom.

     

    TITLE: Child Development II                                                Credit: .5

    Prerequisite: Child Development                                            Difficulty Rating: 1

    Description:  This course is a continuation with greater depth of the Child Development class. Students will experience a greater learning of parenting activities along with elaborating the responsibilities of family, work, and community.
