Every other year my students participate in the Pittsburgh Holocaust Center's Art and Writing Contest. The students are each given a dossier with a specific person or people group affected by the travesty of the Holocaust, a map of the area affected by WWII and instructions for an altered art box project. Although an altered box project (based on the art of Joseph Cornell) is suggested, some students choose to do a painting or drawing. Studying the Holocaust is a very emotional project, but one I choose to do, so we will remember ...and not forget. We have been fortunate the past few years to hear a Holocaust survivor share his story.
