Medical Conditions

  • September 13, 2010

    Dear Parent/Guardian:

The South Allegheny Middle/High School is requesting your assistance with a student’s medical condition in our school community.  In our building, we have a student who lacks the ability to produce antibodies or fight infection.  As a result, they are prone to develop infection if exposed.  There is no cure with this condition, but with regular treatments of some antibodies they are able to lead a relatively normal life.

With this in mind, if your child develops a contagious disease we would like to be informed via a note from you or your child’s physician and please forward this note to the school nurse.  In doing this, we will then inform our student’s parent of the condition so treatment can follow if needed.  Keep in mind, confidentially will be maintained at all levels.

Diseases/conditions that we would like notified of would include chicken pox, conjunctivitis, diarrheal diseases, encephalitis, fifth disease, hepatitis, impetigo, influenza, measles, mumps, rubella, meningitis, mononucleosis, MRSA, pneumonia, polio, ringworm, scabies, scarlet fever, strep throat, tuberculosis and whooping cough.  If your child is diagnosed with any condition please tell the physician of our situation to determine if it needs to be conveyed to our student’s parent.

The health, safety and welfare of all South Allegheny School District children is a priority to us.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
