Practical Math 7 and Practical Math 8 - 'IT IS NOT THE HOURS YOU PUT IN, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, W

I am the seventh and eighth grade Special Education teacher and currently in my eighth year of teaching in the South Allegheny School District.  I am a resident of Liberty Boro and was a 1995 graduate of SA.  I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary/Special Education at California University of PA.  In addition to teaching, I am also the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach and the Assistant Varsity Track & Field Coach.  Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, working around the house, playing basketball, and playing with my two Rottweilers.

Everyday upon entering the class, students will get their student portfolios, which will be located in the back of the classroom.  Immediately after taking their seat, the students are expected to complete the "problem of the day".  Daily lessons will be followed by an assignment, which will be done in class.  If the student does not finish, he or she will be required to take the assignment home.  Mostly all quizzes/exams will be on Friday's.  At the beginning of each 9 week period, each student is expected to complete a pre-pssa test.  These scores will be recorded on a baseball card.  The baseball card stats is an excellent visual to monitor progress for the student, parents, and teacher.  Our ultimate goal in this class is to prepare each student to be proficient for the PSSA exam, which begins on March 31, 2008

This after school program is a small group instruction study group geared to help your child prepare for the PSSA's in math.  Ru-View will show you what the math questions are like, tells you what you need to know to do well on the test, and gives practice on the kids of math topics that will be on the test.  This program will run every Thursday from 2:50 - 3:20

Grades are based on daily word problems, in-class assignments, homework, exams, and participation.  Your grade is automatically tallied by the computer system.  It is determined by how many points you have, divided by how many points were offered.
