President

Shawn DeVerse
 

Mr. Shawn DeVerse is the South Allegheny School District Board President.  A lifelong resident of South Allegheny, and a 1988 graduate, Mr. DeVerse also is employed with the Glassport Borough as Assistant Chief of Police and has been employed with them for 23 years.  He has been married for 19 years and has 3 children - Meghan, Lindsay, and Gavin.  
 
Mr. DeVerse has prior school board experience while sitting on the Catholic School Boards for St. Joseph and Mary of Nazareth Catholic Schools for 4.5 years.  Additionally, Mr. DeVerse is a 34-year member of the Glassport Fire Department with a current title of President.  He also has two years of active service in the United States Army and in 2011 he was deployed to Afghanistan with the title of US Army Contractor as an International Police Advisor. While in Afghanistan, Mr. DeVerse sustained injuries in a hostile setting during his course of duties.

Jason Ewing
 

Jason L. Ewing is serving his first term as a School Board member. A 1990 graduate of Chichester High School in Boothwyn, PA, Jason and his wife, Amy, have been residents of Port Vue for more than 20 years. He has been employed in the Automotive field for the past 30 years, working currently for a vehicle electronics manufacturer and holding an International Training and Product Support position.
 
Jason believes that besides a loving family, a great education is the most important thing that a child needs. Jason and Amy have two daughters at home, ages 21 and 15, currently attending school in the district is Arianna and is in 10th grade. Arianna is currently the class president and is a member of the GATE program. She is also a member of the Junior National Honor Society.  Jenée is currently a senior at Slippery Rock University and is double majoring in Dance and Business Communications. Jenée is also currently still involved with the South Allegheny School District, as a volunteer auxiliary instructor with the high school marching band. Jason’s oldest adult son Ryan, is following in his father’s footsteps and is employed in the Automotive Field specializing in vehicle electronics and integrations. He resides in the Philadelphia Area.

Jason is also a volunteer fireman with the Vigilant Hose Co #1 located in Port Vue, Pa.
Jason’s hobbies include old vehicle restorations, accurate sound reproduction in high resolution audio systems, and shooting darts.

Carol Craig
 
 
Mrs. Carol Craig is a 1978 graduate of Duquesne High School.  She grew up in Duquesne.  She has been married for 30 years to Charles Craig and has one daughter, Rebecca, who is a 2014 graduate of South Allegheny.  She is currently retired from Penndot with 26 years of service  where she worked as the Western Regional Traffic Management Operator.   Her hopes are to open the lines of communication with our communities and support the needs of our students to better prepare them for life after SA.

Frank Cortazzo
 
 
Mr. Frank Cortazzo, a resident of Port Vue, has been married to his wife, Noreen, for 48 years. Together, they have raised three sons, all graduates of South Allegheny High School, and are proud grandparents to seven grandchildren, two of whom are also South Allegheny alumni.

Mr. Cortazzo is a 1976 graduate of East Allegheny High School and in 1980 earned a bachelor's degree in education from West Liberty State College in West Virginia. In May 2025, he achieved his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Duquesne University.

His record of public service is extensive. Mr. Cortazzo served on the Port Vue Borough Council for 18 years and has dedicated the past six years as a school director for the South Allegheny School District. Additionally, he has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for the past four years.
Professionally, Mr. Cortazzo brings nearly 45 years of experience in law enforcement, including 39 years with the Duquesne University Police Department. He is a lifetime member of Vigilant Hose Company #1 in Port Vue and has contributed to youth development through 40 plus years of coaching athletics. His first coaching role at South Allegheny began in 1984 as an assistant wrestling coach. He also served as a substitute teacher for a decade.
 
Mr. Cortazzo states:
"I have a strong desire to serve the people of the South Allegheny School District, especially the children. I look forward to continue working collaboratively with the superintendent, school administration, elected officials, and the four communities that make up South Allegheny."

Lauren DiBeneditto Huey
 
 
Lauren DiBeneditto Huey is a proud South Allegheny community member with deep roots in the district. Five of her children graduated from South Allegheny and currently have 3 granddaughters attending the district.  She earned a B.A. in Foreign Languages from West Virginia University and dedicated more than a decade serving the youth through South Allegheny Youth Football and South Allegheny Youth Basketball Boards. Lauren currently serves on the Tonystrong Board while entering her 5 year on the South Allegheny School Board.

The PSBA Principals of Governance and Leadership were approved by the South Allegheny Board of Directors on November 15, 2018.
