Every South Allegheny language student will be exposed to the varying cultural, racial, and linguistic viewpoints applicable not only to countries around the world but to communities within our nation and region.
Spanish I

Description
 
Spanish I is designed for students to build a solid foundation in the language.  The emphasis will be on conversational vocabulary and basic grammar structures.  Listening, reading, writing, and speaking will be the skills of focus in the classroom.  Discussions of culture will be used to further students’ understanding of similarities and differences in daily life in the Hispanic world.
Spanish II

Prerequisite: Spanish I with a "C" or better Difficulty Rating: 1
 
Description
 
Spanish II builds on the language skills gained in previous study.  There will be a greater emphasis on more complex grammatical structures, an improvement of speaking and listening skills, including pronunciation, and a continuation of cultural studies as related to daily life in the Hispanic world.
Spanish III

Prerequisite: Spanish II with a "C" or better Difficulty Rating: 2

Spanish IV builds on the language skills gained in previous study.  More complex expression through the use of higher-level grammatical structures will be expected.  Students will also focus on the development of independent listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills using increased specific vocabulary.  Students will be exposed to many new cultural nuances of life in the Hispanic world through a diverse selection of readings in humor, journalism, fiction, and regional literature.
Spanish V

Prerequisite: Spanish IV with a "C" or better Difficulty Rating: 2
